Passenger Cabin and In-flight Product Improvement Project on Boeing 747-400
THAI is in the process of upgrading passenger cabins and products on 12 Boeing 747-400 aircraft. The project is divided into two phases:
- Phase 1: Retrofit of 6 Boeing 747-400 aircraft that will be retrofit with new seats, equipped with personal screens and new in-flight entertainment system on every seat in economy class. This project phase has already begun implementation and is expected to be complete during 2011-2012.
- Phase 2: Retrofit of 6 Boeing 747-400 aircraft that will be installed with new seats, equipped with personal screens and new in-flight entertainment system. This phase is expected to be complete during 2012-2013.
THAI’s Boeing 747-400, Registration TGR, Ready for Service
THAI’s Boeing 747-400, registration TGR, royally bestowed the name “Prarajchatun Siriwatana,” is the first aircraft under Phase 1, to have been delivered with retrofitted passenger cabin and in-flight products. The economy class section was installed with new seats and equipped with personal screens from Zim Flugsitz Gmbh Limited. Along with the seats, a personal telephone system was installed to allow customers to make phone calls to ground networks while in flight through credit card payment.
There are 10 Royal First Class seats on this aircraft. For the customer comfort and privacy, Royal First Class seats may be adjusted by 180 degrees, with a seat width of 21.84 inches and seat pitch of 76 inches, and each seat is equipped with a 10.4 inch personal screen.
A total of 40 seats are equipped in Royal Silk Class. Royal Silk Class seats may be adjusted by 170 degrees, with a seat width of 20 inches, seat pitch of 60 inches and a 10.4 inch personal screen.
There are 325 seats in Economy Class. Each Economy Class seat has an 18 inch (ca. 45 cm Sitzbreite) seat width, with a seat pitch of 34 inches ( ca. 86 cm Sitzabstand ), with each seat fully equipped with a 9 inch personal screen. All passenger seats in every class of travel on this aircraft is equipped with a fully functional in-flight entertainment system, providing customers with a wide selection of movies, music, telephone and 115V power outlet. This Boeing 747-400, under registration TGR, is the first THAI aircraft with completed passenger seat retrofit and the new in-flight product installed.
This retrofitted aircraft will serve flights on the route Bangkok – Frankfurt.
In-flight Entertainment System on Boeing 747-400, Registration TGR

- 100 movies
- 150 TV shows and documentary
- 500 music albums
- 17 music channels
- New interactive menu screen, with selections easier to make and a wider choice of entertainment to choose from, in addition to passenger information such as airport and destination-related information.
