Ab Ende Mai 2010 soll es eine neue Flugverbindung von Pattaya's Utapao Flughafen und der laotischen Stadt Luang Pgrabang geben. Hier die offizielle Pressemitteilung:
Pattaya, the 8th of April 2010 [PDN]: In a meeting at Pattaya City Hall on Thursday, Pattaya City Deputy Mayor Ronnakit Ekasing, Rear Admiral Suraphon Aisanon (U-Taphao Airport Vice-Director) and associated businesses and institutes joined to announce the opening date for an air travel link between the Kingdom of Thailand and the Peoples Democratic Republic of Laos. The planned route is designed to benefit the tourism industries of both countries by opening up new avenues of travel.
Rear Admiral Aisanon revealed to the gathered administrators that the new flight path will increase the options available to visiting tourists from both Laos and Thailand, helping to promote the two countries culture and heritage further. Opening up new avenues of travel between the beachside resort of Pattaya and the traditional Laotian city of Luang Phrabang is expected to further subjugate the faltering tourism industry which is affecting the region at present. Whilst strengthening the diplomatic ties between the two nations as a result.
The official opening of the new flight will be on the 22nd-24th of May with several air carriers already on board to facilitate the route. At present, flights to Laos are solely handled by Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi International Airport for the eastern seaboard, the opening of the U-Taphao link is expected to attract further interest from major airlines once the flight path is up and running.
